Mrs Jackson, Northumberland
Background
Easibathe was commissioned to create a wet room for Mrs Jackson, who had trouble using their existing bathroom. They also wanted the door frames to be widened to allow easy access for Mrs Jackson, who walks with a walking frame.
The original provision was a small shower in a cupboard but this was increasingly difficult for the customer to use.
They live on a hill with the back of the property on an uphill slope, which created a challenge for us.
Project
As the property is built on a hill the team had to excavate into the recess at the back of the property and level it out. They then build a wet room and widened the door frame to enable access for Mrs Jackson.
The job was arranged with the help of an occupational therapist and Northumberland Council, who provided a disabled facilities grant for the work to be done. The customer requested that Easibathe complete the work as they had provided detailed proposals and have a lot of expertise in the disabled adaptations sector.
Easibathe took the job on and set about planning a bespoke wet room facility, with features such as a specialist floor covering with a slip resistant finish, a half-height shower screen to allow care assisted showering and a shower seat.
In order to create the wet room they had to take a wall out and excavate into a steep uphill slope, which the house is next to. The new bathroom is below ground level and ‘L’ shaped.
Outcome
By excavating into the recess behind the original shower cupboard Easibathe has added an extra 1500mm x 1900mm, increasing the size of the bathroom significantly.
The finished bathroom has provided the customer with a functional user-friendly solution providing ease of access and use.
This bespoke solution was possible because of Easibathe’s expertise in the sector and the skills of the team.

Testimonial
“We are very happy with the end result as the original shower room was not practical for my mother. The new wet room is easy for her to use with her Zimmer frame, and the half height shower screen means that I can help her to shower easily and with dignity. The level access shower means that if she eventually needs to use a wheelchair she will have easy access, too.”
